The Foo Fighters have parted company with drummer Josh Freese, according to the artist.

Freese, who joined the band in 2023 following the loss of longtime drummer Taylor Hawkins, announced the news on social media Friday.

"The Foo Fighters called me Monday night to let me know they've decided "to go in a different direction with their drummer." No reason was given," Freese wrote in an Instagram post. "Regardless, enjoyed the past two years with them, both on and off stage, and support whatever they feel is best for the band."

"In my 40 years of professional drumming, I've never been let go from a band, so I'm not furious, just surprised and sad. But, as most of you know, I've always worked freelance and bounced between bands, so I'm alright," the 52-year-old drummer explained. "Stay tuned for my 'Top 10 possible reasons Josh got booted from the Foo Fighters' list."

Freese has performed with various bands, including Nine Inch Nails, Guns N' Roses, and A Perfect Circle. He joined the Foo Fighters a year after the Hawins' tragic deaths.

Who is the new drummer for the Foo Fighters?

While Freese hinted at the band taking "a different direction with their drummer," the Foo Fighters have yet to reveal who will be their replacement drummer.

The Foo Fighters confirmed earlier this week that they will be performing at the Singapore Grand Prix in October. It will be the band's first performance since leader Dave Grohl confessed that he fathered a child outside of his marriage.
